What is Furnace Replacement?
Heating system or furnace replacement is the process of removing an old, faulty, or inefficient furnace or home heating system and replacing it with a new one. This is typically done when the old furnace is beyond repair, is no longer functioning properly, or is too old and inefficient to continue providing reliable heating for a home or building.
Heating installation is a significant undertaking that should be performed by a trained HVAC technician. The technician will carefully remove the old furnace and install the new one, making sure that all necessary connections and safety features are in place. They will also test the new furnace to ensure that it is working properly and providing sufficient heat for your home.
How Long Do Heating Furnace Systems Last?
Furnaces generally last 15-20 years while heat pumps last about 10-15, depending on a number of factors.
For instance, if the homeowner before you “saved” money through the years with DIY maintenance (overlooking key factors involved in furnace and heat pump care), or if it was avoided altogether, you might need an earlier replacement. Other factors include the manufacturer (some are better than others) and whether it was sized correctly for the home to begin with.
Preemptively replacing your central heating system is often more economical than keeping an existing one going. That’s because you might not know your heating unit is on its last leg until you’ve sunk almost the amount it would take to replace it with useless repairs. Plus, you endure untimely and stressful breakdowns when you could be enjoying a more comfortable home and lower utility bills. What could be more frustrating?

Should I Repair or Replace?
Occasionally, we’re called out for problems that are taken care of with a minor repair (loose wiring, dirty filter, clogged drain tube, blocked exhaust vent, debris in the fan blades). But the opposite is also true.
So as a general rule of thumb, if you notice any of the following it’s time to call a licensed HVAC technician with the expectation that a replacement could be on the horizon:
- Air Contamination (dust particles, soot, carbon monoxide causing nausea, headaches, flu-like symptoms, eye and nose irritation)
- Frequent Repairs (seasonal maintenance excluded)
- Increasing Bills (while energy usage remains the same)
- Off-colored Flame (in gas furnaces the burner flame should be blue)
- Rising Humidity (heat is not pulling moisture from the air)
- Uneven Heating (some rooms get warm while others stay cold)
- Unusual Noise (snapping, crackling, sizzling, popping, humming, buzzing, etc.)
- Visible Deterioration (rust, corrosion, water leaks, cracks on heat exchanger)
The Efficiency Of a New Unit
While it may be expensive on the front end to purchase a new furnace, updating can cut your monthly heating bills dramatically, sometimes by half.
Newer gas-burning furnaces that are up to 95 percent efficient have been around for years, yet we still come across older units that are operating at 50 percent or worse! What this means is that for every therm of heat making its way into your home, another therm escapes into an attic, basement, crawlspace, or furnace exhaust pipe. The newer technology in higher efficiency gas and electric furnaces also allows them to operate at different “stages” or “speeds” so they’re not constantly running at full capacity.
We quote installations with a written and detailed explanation of everything included with your new unit including the manufacturer and the efficiency ratings (SEER, EER, AFUE, BTU, HSPF). With this information, you can make an informed choice about buying a new central heating system.
Gas Leak Safety
As part of general maintenance and inspections, our licensed HVAC technicians use industry-specific diagnostic equipment to thoroughly test gas combustion furnaces for output of carbon monoxide and other pollutants, regardless of whether it comes from the infamous “cracked heat exchanger” or somewhere else in your furnace or ventilation system.
We make sure that all of the safety checks that were built into your original furnace or heat pump are still connected and working as they should.
Each of our service vans is equipped with a full set of the best tools and diagnostic equipment to ensure your furnace or heat pump is working properly. No sharing equipment, skipping diagnostics, or saying “we’ll be back” later. When we leave a service call you know whether or not your equipment is safe.

We supply HVAC equipment and install single-stage, multi-speed, variable-speed, gas furnaces, electric furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, and ductless mini-split systems. TE Certified is a Rheem Pro Partner and exclusively installs Rheem brand equipment. How Long Does it Take to Install a Furnace?
Typically, furnace installations take about a day. We remove your old furnace (and take it away), install the new one, install the components (thermostat, UV light, humidifier, dehumidifier), reconnect the ductwork, calibrate the controls, and test your new installation.
We always do a final walk-through with you to ensure you’re happy and understand how the new unit works.
Is There a Warranty on My New Heating System?
Yes! We offer a lifetime workmanship warranty on all of our central heating installations in addition to any limited warranty provided with your equipment or extended warranty offered by the manufacturer. If anything about our installation fails (i.e. we installed it poorly) you’re 100 percent covered. Just let us know!
We send qualified technicians who will inspect the work when it is done. They will also do a final walk-through with you to ensure you’re 100 percent happy with the job. However, mistakes happen, parts fail, and sometimes there are “perfect storms”. If that’s the case, just let us know! We give priority preference to warranty calls with our same-day scheduling, two-hour arrival windows, and 30-minute heads-up when we’re on our way.
